  • SBLI’s A.M. Best Financial Strength Rating is A (Excellent)
    A.M. Best recently issued a press release reflecting SBLI’s Financial Strength rating was adjusted from A+ (Superior) with a negative outlook to A (Excellent) with a stable outlook.  While SBLI is disappointed with the downgrade, they were not surprised. The tight margins associated with a commodity product like term life make it challenging to sustain competitive statutory earnings and capital growth; especially in the prolonged low interest rate environment. SBLI’s S&P rating remains at ‘A-‘ (Strong). In addition, SBLI, as a regulated entity, is required to set aside capital to offset future liabilities. They currently maintain capital well in excess of those minimum levels required by regulators. Therefore, as indicated by the A.M. Best rating of A (Excellent) with a stable outlook, they feel confident about the current capital level and future growth opportunities of the company.

    • New sales: New ASIA PLUS applications with a 3 or 5 year allocation must be dated by November 30, 2016 and received by December 5, 2016 in order to receive those strategies.
    • Current Contracts: If a client is currently allocated to a 3 or 5 year strategy, they will continue to have premium allocated to that strategy until the end of the 3 or 5 year segment term.
